Its history dates back over 116 years when the Group was founded in Australia. Since then the Group has grown to include operations in 44 countries with over US$4.9 billion of capital writing in excess of US$8.1 billion in premium. QBE the Americas operations commenced in 1986 when the QBE Insurance Group established a presence in the U.S. QBE Farmers Union Insurance became a member of the QBE Insurance Group in 2005.
Back in the days of FDR, an organization formed by and promoting the interests of family farmers known as National QBE Farmers Union founded the National QBE Farmers Union Security Association, a life insurance company aimed at providing financial security for the nation's family farmers while earning much-needed income for National QBE Farmers Union. The Security Association proved successful and was joined by a property and casualty company (National QBE Farmers Union Automobile and Casualty Company) established by National QBE Farmers Union in 1945. Both the life and casualty companies changed their names in 1950 to National QBE Farmers Union Life Insurance Company and National QBE Farmers Union Property and Casualty Company, respectively. Later (in 1968, to be exact), a third company providing non-preferred auto coverages - National QBE Farmers Union Standard Insurance Company - joined the fold.
While National QBE Farmers Union Life Insurance Company and National QBE Farmers Union Standard Insurance Company have since been sold, our remaining company - National QBE Farmers Union Property and Casualty Company (commonly referred to as QBE Farmers Union Insurance - continues to have as two of its principal purposes providing the very best in security and protection for our policyholders (mostly in rural America) as well as indirectly supporting the family farm advocacy work of National QBE Farmers Union. In 2005 QBE Farmers Union Insurance became part of the QBE Insurance Group, a large insurance group with impressive expertise and financial strength.
QBE Farmers Union Insurance writes auto, small commercial, homeowners and farmowners insurance in nine Midwestern and Rocky Mountain states, with QBE Farmers Union general agencies in charge of the agency force in eight of those states. The agents in the general agency states are "exclusive" - that is, their focus is on representing QBE Farmers Union Insurance. Being an exclusive QBE Farmers Union Insurance agent is somewhat of a family tradition, with many agents following in the footsteps of their agent parents and, in some cases, grandparents.
